We carefully select the right associates. We seek recommendations for reliable new hires from our current staff, and select carefully for janitorial skill and experience and also for pride, reliability, flexibility, and initiative. We also conduct background checks on all personnel – janitors, managers, administrators, salespeople, subcontractors.
We give everyone the same exceptional training. Everyone we hire – for any position at all – completes our video training and testing on all the basics of commercial building maintenance. This video training covers effective techniques and appropriate materials and procedures for cleaning various types of rooms and facilities, maintaining floors and carpets, understanding safety and security, using equipment correctly, knowing the properties and uses of cleaning chemicals, and more.
After the video course comes hands-on training, and no new employee or associate is placed in a client building before completing this stage. Even then, new crew members work closely with experienced personnel to ensure a smooth transition into their assignment.
We supervise effectively. All our staff are trained to check their own work rigorously. In addition, project managers and supervisors have extensive experience in the building maintenance industry. They use a detailed schedule of checklists, inspections, and audits to maintain the highest standards.
We make sure everyone is in the picture. Large projects require ongoing communication between daytime and evening personnel. We maintain our communications through management visits and written logbook information that is checked by the on-site supervisor. We also keep up communication with each other during the course of servicing each account.
RBMC averages 10% turnover per year in an industry where 100% turnover per year is not unusual. We attribute this exceptionally low turnover to training for success, profit sharing, good benefits, and our ability to show we appreciate the service our crews provide to our customers. Our employees are very good at their jobs and are the key to our business success.
RBMC also has an extremely low absentee rate – only 1% over the past two years. When we do have absences, we have equally well-trained personnel on call who are ready at a moment’s notice to respond.
